What does Zucked Mean?
Zucked describes the sudden riches loss investors and business executives encounter when a dotcom stock plunges, destroying investors’ inflated paper fortunes. This term originated in reaction to the decline of Facebook’s stock after its IPO in May 2012, which cost Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, other company executives and investors billions of bucks.
Many investors believed a dotcom era was represented by the IPO of Facebook. But unlike the dotcom boom and bust, where investors got to delight in their paper fortunes the most recent boom and bust cycles – largely involving networking companies – indicate that the market of today is quite a bit more manic.
Facebook opened with a trading price of 38, however, at the time it released its first earnings report (a miss), the inventory had dropped by nearly 50 percent. Groupon and Zynga’s CEOs also observed losses from the first part of 2012 in the worth of their business holdings, resulting in calls that they, also, were Zucked.
