How Long Will a SIM Card Stay Active Without Recharge

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made a significant announcement for the benefit of consumers. From now on, those with multiple SIM cards will have an easier time maintaining the validity of their SIMs. Often, customers forget to recharge their second SIM, but with the new TRAI rule, this issue will be minimized. Now, even if there is no recharge for 3 months, the SIM card will remain active, but if no recharge is done after 90 days, the SIM will be deactivated.

New Rule for Jio Customers:

Jio customers will now get a validity of 90 days. That means, if there is no recharge for 90 days, the SIM card will be deactivated and reassigned to another customer. However, to avoid losing the SIM, customers will only need to make a small recharge.

New Rule for Airtel Customers:

The same rule applies to Airtel customers. If there is no recharge for 90 days, the SIM card will be deactivated and reassigned to someone else. However, customers will be given a 15-day grace period, and if no recharge is made during this time, the SIM cannot be reactivated.

Vodafone Idea’s Rule:

Vodafone Idea customers will also have a validity of 90 days. After 90 days, if no recharge is made, customers will need to recharge ₹49 to reactivate the SIM. Otherwise, the SIM will be deactivated.

Rule for BSNL Customers:

For BSNL customers, a validity period of 180 days is being provided. This means that they can go without a recharge for up to 6 months without worrying about their SIM being deactivated.

What Will It Cost to Reactivate the SIM?

After 90 days, if the customer’s prepaid balance has at least ₹20, this amount will be deducted, and an additional 30 days of validity will be provided. This allows the customer more time to recharge and keep the SIM active.

These new rules are a significant step towards providing more convenience for telecom customers, making it easier to manage their mobile connections.
